Because somewhere along the way, we were taught to chase more instead of becoming more ourselves.

There came a moment when I realized I wasn’t looking for another beginning.
I wasn’t searching for another five-step plan.
I wasn’t interested in another version of myself.
What I wanted was something quieter.
Something slower.
Something that made room for reflection instead of performance.
For years, I consumed what the internet told me successful women should consume. Productivity advice. Wellness trends. Morning routines. Career strategies. Personal branding. Endless reminders that there was always another habit to build, another optimization to make, another version of myself waiting just beyond enough effort.
It wasn’t that any of it was inherently wrong.
It simply wasn’t enough.
Information had become abundant.
Wisdom had become rare.
That realization became the beginning of 19sixtiesgirl.
Not as a business first.
Not as a content strategy.
But as a place to think.
A place where slowing down isn’t falling behind.
Where context matters as much as information.
Where wellness is measured by peace instead of perfection.
And where women in midlife are reminded that they have never been behind schedule.
The internet rewards noise.
Algorithms reward urgency.
Social media rewards certainty.
Everything feels designed to convince us that if we stop moving, we stop mattering.
But life has taught me something different.
The most meaningful growth I’ve experienced didn’t happen because I hurried.
It happened because I paid attention.
Because I asked better questions.
Because I allowed myself to reconsider what success actually meant.
I’ve spent much of my professional life building systems, leading operations, organizing information, and helping complex organizations work better.
That work taught me that systems matter.
Structure matters.
Context matters.
The same is true for our lives.
Without context, information becomes overwhelming.
Without reflection, productivity becomes exhaustion.
Without intention, achievement eventually feels hollow.
Midlife isn’t a crisis.
It’s clarity.
Somewhere along the journey, I stopped believing that reinvention meant becoming someone new.
Instead, I began to see it differently.
Perhaps reinvention isn’t about replacing ourselves.
Perhaps it’s about uncovering the person who existed before expectations became louder than our own voice.
Midlife has given me permission to ask different questions.
Not:
“How can I do more?”
But:
“What actually deserves my attention?”
Not:
“How do I keep up?”
But:
“Who decided I was behind?”
These questions changed everything.
They changed how I think about work.
How I think about wellness.
How I think about identity.
How I think about success.
And eventually…
How I wanted to create.

Why the name 19sixtiesgirl?
I was born during a decade that represented enormous cultural change.
The 1960s challenged assumptions.
They questioned systems.
They expanded conversations about identity, community, opportunity, and possibility.
While I don’t romanticize every part of that era, I appreciate what it symbolizes: courage to rethink what had always been accepted.
The name 19sixtiesgirl reminds me that history matters.
Context matters.
The stories that came before us shape the choices we make today.
I wanted a name that honored reflection instead of trend.
A name that felt personal but invited larger conversations.
“Information tells us what happened. Context helps us understand why it matters.”
19sixtiesgirl
This isn’t another lifestyle website.
There are already countless places offering lists of habits, routines, products, and productivity systems.
That isn’t what I wanted to create.
I wanted to build something that feels more like a thoughtful conversation than a performance.
A place where readers don’t leave feeling inadequate.
They leave feeling understood.
You’ll find articles about wellness.
But not wellness as self-optimization.
You’ll find conversations about travel.
But not as a checklist.
You’ll find reflections on technology.
Not because technology should dominate our lives, but because it should quietly support the lives we actually want to live.
You’ll find discussions about identity.
About history.
About work.
About slowing down.
About becoming more intentional.
Everything connects.
Because life connects.
The heart of 19sixtiesgirl
Everything you’ll find here is guided by four core pillars that reflect how I approach living, learning, and growing in midlife. They aren’t separate parts of life—they overlap, inform one another, and remind us that meaningful change happens through small, intentional choices.
Wellness & Rhythm
Wellness isn’t another goal to achieve—it’s the rhythm that supports everything else. Here you’ll find reflections on rest, movement, faith, boundaries, and creating daily practices that bring steadiness instead of pressure.
Travel & Curiosity
Curiosity keeps us open to the world. Whether exploring a new country or seeing our own neighborhood with fresh eyes, this pillar celebrates travel, culture, history, and the belief that every journey begins with a willingness to learn.
Tech & Reinvention
Technology should make life simpler, not louder. This pillar explores digital tools, innovation, and thoughtful ways to embrace change while staying grounded in what matters most. Reinvention here isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about using what we learn to support the life we’re intentionally creating.
Reclaiming Time & Power
Our time and attention are among our greatest resources. This pillar focuses on setting boundaries, making intentional choices, and redefining success on our own terms so we can spend our lives on what truly matters.
Beyond the pillars
Some conversations naturally reach across every part of the website. Those stories live in two additional categories.
Midlife Reflections is where personal essays and thoughtful observations come together—honest moments, lessons learned, and the perspective that comes from living through different seasons of life.
Education provides the context behind the conversations. Here, you’ll find deeper explorations of history, culture, current events, and ideas that help us move beyond headlines to better understand the world around us.

Why calm authority?
The internet often mistakes loudness for leadership.
I don’t.
Some of the wisest people I’ve known rarely raised their voices.
They listened.
They observed.
They made thoughtful decisions.
Their confidence wasn’t performative.
It was grounded.
That’s the feeling I hope every page of this website carries.
Not urgency.
Not hype.
Calm authority.
The kind that says:
You don’t have to hurry.
You don’t have to prove your worth every day.
You don’t have to become someone else before your life begins.
“Power doesn’t always arrive loudly. Sometimes it arrives quietly, asking us to pay attention.”

Why African American women are centered here
Representation matters.
Throughout my life, I’ve rarely seen everyday images of Black women simply living well.
Reading.
Traveling.
Resting.
Learning.
Creating.
Reflecting.
Not performing excellence.
Simply existing with dignity, curiosity, and peace.
That’s intentional.
While this website welcomes every woman, I want African American women to recognize themselves here.
To see possibility.
Softness.
Strength.
Joy.
Complexity.
Because all of those things belong to us.
This website is also about work.
Not because work defines us.
But because meaningful work shapes our days.
I’ve spent years building digital systems, managing operations, solving problems, and helping organizations create meaningful impact.
That experience influences how I think.
It reminds me that beautiful ideas still need thoughtful structure.
Reflection without action remains unfinished.
Action without reflection becomes noise.
The balance between the two is where meaningful work happens.

What I hope you’ll find here
I hope you find permission.
Permission to move more slowly.
Permission to ask better questions.
Permission to define success differently.
Permission to value peace as much as achievement.
Permission to learn continuously.
Permission to remain curious.
Permission to become more yourself rather than someone entirely new.
Most of all, I hope you find perspective.
Because perspective changes everything.
A quiet invitation
There are already enough places telling us what to buy.
Enough places telling us what we’re doing wrong.
Enough places promising transformation in thirty days.
This won’t be one of them.
Instead, I hope this becomes a place you return to when you need a slower conversation.
When you need context instead of headlines.
Reflection instead of reaction.
Rhythm instead of urgency.
Because I believe wisdom still has a place online.
And I believe there are many women looking for exactly this kind of space.
If you’re one of them—
Welcome.
You’ve found your place.
“Move slowly on purpose. Build rhythm, not hype. The life you’re looking for isn’t ahead of you—it’s waiting beneath the noise.”
